The "diamond ring," the flare of the last bit of sunlight, begins the total phase of the eclipse of the sun on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999. The sun's corona circles the dark disk of the moon. It was viewed from the World Renaissance cruise ship floating in the Black Sea off Bulgaria at 43-degrees, 6-minutes North Latitude and 29-degrees, 44-minutes East Longitude.
